Description

The will of Ildefons Cerdà i Sunyer, drawn up in 1876 and deposited with the notary Ferran Moragas i Ubach, is a textual document of great historical and symbolic value. Cerdà, a visionary engineer and urban planner, designed Barcelona’s Eixample with a clear European vocation, based on principles of equality, hygiene and mobility. His testament reflects not only his life and family history, but also the legacy of a modern way of thinking committed to social progress. This document meets the criteria of the digital resource: chronologically it belongs to the 19th century; is a textual document; comes from a notarial fund; it is linked to the territory of Barcelona and the region of Osona; and thematically connects with politics, governance and the construction of a European society. Its inclusion allows us to understand how Cerdà’s ideas have contributed to shaping a modern and European Catalonia.
