Description

The letter addressed to Carles Riba for the organization of the Floral Games of the Catalan Language held in Paris in 1948 is a key testimony of Catalan cultural continuity in exile. In the midst of the post-war period and under Franco’s repression, the Floral Games became a tool of symbolic resistance and preservation of the Catalan language and identity outside the territory. The event, held in the French capital, reinforced the historical link between Catalonia and Europe, and placed Catalan culture within the space of democratic freedoms. The figure of Carles Riba, poet and intellectual of reference, exemplifies the commitment of the exiles to the cultural dignity of the country. It is a clear example of how Catalan culture survived and was projected from European exile.
