Description

This letter from the Servicio Internacional de los Amigos Cuáqueros, sent to the City Council of Roda de Ter in 1939, is a valuable testimony of international solidarity during the Spanish Civil War. The organization, of a charitable and confessional nature, with headquarters in the United States and delegations in Europe, established an “International Commission for Aid to Refugees in Spain”, with an active presence in Catalonia. The letter refers to the “Children’s Canteen” that they maintained in the municipality to feed refugee children, at a time of profound humanitarian crisis. This textual document reflects the European and transnational dimension of humanitarian aid, and highlights the collaboration between local institutions and international organizations.
