Description

Iberia is considered one of the key and most difficult works in the piano repertoire. When the pianist and composer Isaac Albéniz (1860-1909) wrote it, he had left behind his career as a concert player and entrusted the premiere to pianists with whom he worked side by side and who he subjected to a severe test; it counted mainly with Blanca Selva and Joaquim Malats.
These two performers bequeathed to the Catalan Orfeó Documentation Center the autograph manuscripts of five of Iberia’s twelve pieces (“Fête de Dieu à Séville”, from notebook 1; “Rondeña”, “Almería” and “Triana”, from notebook 2, and “El Polo”, from notebook 3).
