Description

On November 6, 1914, in the midst of European upheaval due to the outbreak of the First World War, the “Línea Marítima Española” was established, a fast and regular connection between the port of Barcelona and the ports of Eastern Europe. This document reflects the Catalan strategy of opening up to the Eastern Mediterranean, reinforcing Barcelona’s role as a European logistics and commercial hub. At a time of geopolitical redefinition, the initiative shows Catalonia’s willingness to participate actively in the continent’s economic and diplomatic networks. This maritime line not only favored trade and mobility, but also symbolized Catalonia’s international vocation and its ability to adapt to major historical changes. The document is part of the theme of international relations and trade, and exemplifies the connection between territory, economy and European construction from a Catalan perspective.
