Description

The class newspaper of the school in Espolla, corresponding to the year 1931, is a direct witness to the pedagogical renewal that marked the first decades of the 20th century in Catalonia. In the framework of the Second Republic, many rural schools, like this one in Alt Empordà, adopted active methodologies and a new conception of education based on participation, freedom and observation of the environment. This document reflects the teachers’ commitment to a transformative education rooted in the territory, and shows how educational modernization also reached small towns. The newspaper, of great historical and pedagogical value, is part of the themes of Catalan society and culture, and exemplifies the connection between Catalan educational policies and European currents of pedagogical renewal.
