Description

This document is one of the few documents preserved in the Municipal Archive and it has to do with one of the great engineering works of the 19th century: the water canalization in Barcelona and Mataró.
As is well known, during the 19th century demographic pressure caused Barcelona to expand its urbanized area, giving rise to the urban planning devised by Ildelfons Cerdà (cerdà plan). However, it was not only necessary to develop, but also to provide services to the newly developed areas. It is at this point that the importance of the engineering work taking place in Dosrius lies: it was necessary to bring drinking water to Barcelona’s Eixample. To be able to do this, the Belgian Public Limited Company “Compañia de Aguas de Barcelona” was created in Belgium. This company was responsible for channeling the waters of Dosrius to Barcelona.
This document is one of the books that the supplying company published in its advertising policy informing about its activity and trying to convince citizens of the quality of its product.
