Description

Between 1918 and 1956, the documentation on the production and commercialization of tobacco in flakes reveals the last vestiges of economic relations between Catalonia and the Philippines, inheritors of the Spanish colonial past. This documentary collection shows how, despite the loss of the colonies at the end of the 19th century, active commercial links were maintained, especially in sectors such as tobacco, key to Catalan industry. The document bears witness to a stage of transition, in which Catalonia, despite decolonization, continued to participate in global economic circuits. This connection with the Philippines reflects the persistence of an open and internationalized Catalan economy, and highlights its ability to adapt to new geopolitical scenarios. The document is part of the themes of trade, economy and international relations, and contributes to understanding the role of Catalonia in shaping contemporary Europe.
