Description

The reform project of Llibreria Catalònia, located in Ronda Sant Pere in Barcelona in 1980, symbolizes the cultural and linguistic revitalization of Catalonia in the period immediately following the dictatorship. This bookstore, founded in 1924, became an emblematic space of cultural resistance and promotion of the Catalan language for decades. The business document that records its reform not only reflects an architectural operation, but also a gesture of identity reaffirmation and commitment to one’s own culture. At a time of democratic reconstruction, the modernization of this space is linked to the desire for linguistic normalization and the European projection of Catalan culture. This project is witness to how commercial spaces can become centers of cultural dynamism and the transmission of shared values within plural Europe.
