Description

The homes of the Colonia de Borgonyà, documented between 1976 and 1992, bear witness to a model of social and economic organization that deeply marked industrial Catalonia. The industrial colonies, like Borgonyà, were not only centers of production, but also spaces of community life, with homes, schools, churches and services for workers. This model, imported and adapted to Catalan reality, shows the interaction between industrial capitalism and social control, but also the capacity for self-management and cohesion of working-class communities. The document reflects the transformation of these colonies in the context of the industrial crisis and the democratic transition, and highlights the architectural and human heritage they represent. Borgonyà is an example of how Catalonia has contributed to shaping the European social landscape through its industrial and urban experience.
