Description

The musician Pau Casals (El Vendrell, 1876 – San Juan de Puerto Rico, 1973) writes, from exile in Puerto Rico, to Jaume Bofill Queraltó, mayor of El Vendrell, thanking him for the invitation to the event of the collection and return of the figure of the angel of Tobias on the occasion of its restoration and regrets not being able to attend. The angel of Tobias is a copper statue, created by the silversmith Josep Romeu Mayner from Vilanova, the boilermaker Josep Dalmau, from Valls, and the gilder Josep Puig Pometa, from Vilafranca del Penedès, which observes, from the bell tower of the parish church of Sant Salvador del Vendrell, the daily life of the town since August 6, 1784.
This was the second descent of the figure and the most spectacular, as Mr. Casals comments, because it had the participation of an American helicopter from the Zaragoza air base that took it off, so that the villagers saw it flying spectacularly over the town.
