Description

The installation file of the National Museum of Catalonia in the National Palace of Montjuïc in 1933 is a key document to understand the institutionalization of art and culture in Catalonia. This initiative, which arose in the context of the Republic, responded to the will to preserve and disseminate the Catalan artistic heritage within a European framework of modern museology. The National Palace, built for the International Exhibition of 1929, was thus transformed into a space of collective memory and cultural projection. This document reflects Catalonia’s will to place itself on the European cultural map, with institutions that promote education, research and universal access to art. It is an example of how culture becomes a tool for cohesion and identity, and how museums can be bridges between past, present and future.
