Description

The first diary of sessions of the Parliament of Catalonia, corresponding to the year 1932, records the inaugural session in which Lluís Companys was elected president. This document is fundamental to understanding the restoration of the institutions of self-government after centuries of absence, and symbolizes the beginning of a new democratic stage within the Second Republic. The newspaper reflects parliamentary functioning, the political debate and the will to build its own, modern and representative administration. It is an essential source for studying Catalan political culture and its integration within the European currents of parliamentarism and regional autonomy. The document, of an institutional and textual nature, represents the chronological (20th century), territorial (vegueria of Barcelona) and thematic (politics and governance) diversity. It is a living testimony of Catalonia’s will to participate actively in the construction of a democratic and pluralistic Europe.
