Description

In 1878, the Association of Salt Manufacturers of Gerri de la Sal participated in the Paris Universal Exhibition, an international event that brought together industrial, scientific and cultural innovations from all over the world. This participation not only emphasized the quality and tradition of the Pallars Sobirà salt production, but also placed Catalonia within the European scenario of economic modernization and international projection. The document that attests to this reflects a clear desire to integrate into European commercial and cultural circuits, at a time when universal exhibitions were a symbol of progress and prestige. This source, of an institutional and economic nature, represents the territorial (vegueria of Lleida), chronological (19th century) and thematic (trade and economy) diversity, and shows how even a traditional activity such as salt became a vehicle of connection between Catalonia and Europe.
