Description

This book collects the documentation generated following the Avalot de les Quintes of 1773, one of the first popular revolts in Catalonia since 1714. The resistance to the military levies imposed by the Bourbon monarchy provoked strong opposition from the guilds and professional associations of Barcelona, who saw these quintes as a threat to the social and economic order. The document reflects the tension between central authorities and local institutions, as well as the organizational capacity of urban society to defend its rights. This piece is key to understanding the social conflict of the 18th century and the persistence of a collective Catalan identity against the impositions of the State. In terms of heritage criteria, it stands out for its textual typology, its institutional origin and its political and social themes, linked to the construction of modern Europe.
