Description

The 20s of the 20th century were extremely dry in the Ribera d’Ebre and, by extension, in southern Catalonia, which led to a massive displacement of riverside residents to other Catalan towns, especially Camp de Tarragona and Barcelona and its surroundings. Fortunately, in the midst of this severe climate and population crisis, some Moranque personalities such as Ramon Nogués i Biset, who, among other positions, was president of the Republican Courts in exile, promoted the Community of Irrigators of Móra d’Ebre. It is an ambitious project to raise water from the river and irrigate part of the municipal area of Móra d’Ebre, which was coordinated by the engineer of Italian origin Gaudencio Zopetti and which takes as a reference other similar works of European engineering.
