Description

The letter addressed to Francisco Deó i Deó, provincial deputy and responsible for a mine in Viella, documents a proposal to build a railway line between Viella and La Pobla de Segur, passing through Ribagorça. This initiative, dated 1930, is part of efforts to improve connectivity and economic development in one of the most isolated areas of the Catalan Pyrenees. The project responded to the need to facilitate the transport of natural resources and people, and to integrate Ribagorça into the commercial and social circuits of the country. The document, of an epistolary and institutional nature, reflects the chronological (20th century), typological (textual document), territorial (vegueria of Lleida) and thematic (economic drivers and organization of the territory) diversity. It is a clear example of how the infrastructures planned from the local level aspired to transform the territory and connect Catalonia with modern Europe.
