Description

The Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia approved in 2006 marks a turning point in the redefinition of relations between Catalonia and the Spanish State, and in the consolidation of its self-government within the European legal and political framework. This document, preserved in the National Archives of Catalonia, captures the democratic will of the Catalan people to advance in institutional, cultural and competence recognition. In a European context that promotes decentralization, subsidiarity and respect for regional identities, the Statute becomes a key tool for the articulation of a plural and cohesive Europe. It is also a reflection of the political maturity of Catalan society and its commitment to democratic values, citizen participation and coexistence within a shared European project.
