Description

Guide to Barcelona with special dedication to the International Exhibition of 1929. Includes sections on the Poble Espanyol, the palaces and pavilions, fountains and lights or the recently built stadium.
The Barcelona International Exhibition was, after the Universal Exhibition of 1888, the second great opening of the city to Europe and the world, with the arrival of the most current architectural and artistic styles and the latest technological innovations. In addition, it was an opportunity for urban development, especially in the Montjuïc area, but also with the construction of the subway, the extension of tram and bus lines and the paving of streets and squares, among others. Lastly, it was also an economic and demographic upheaval, at a time of economic stagnation caused by the end of the First World War and with serious unemployment problems.
