Description

The application for permission to build the temple of the Sagrada Família, submitted in 1885 by José Bocabella and Verdaguer, includes two floor plans signed by Antoni Gaudí and Cornet. This document marks the administrative start of one of the most emblematic works of Catalan, European and world architecture. The Sagrada Família, conceived as an expiatory temple, synthesizes the religious, artistic and technical spirit of its time, and projects a unique vision of Catalan modernism. The document highlights the relationship between private initiative, faith and architectural innovation, and shows how Gaudí’s work transcends borders to become universal heritage. This archive piece is witness to the birth of a project that, more than a century later, continues to captivate the world and connect Catalonia with European culture and art.
