Description

In 1864 the society La Navegación Submarina was established, with the aim of financing the construction of the Ictineu, the revolutionary submarine designed by Narcís Monturiol and Estarriol. The statutes of this society not only document the creation of a business entity, but also symbolize the innovative and scientific spirit of 19th century Catalonia. In a European context of great technological advances, Monturiol represents the figure of the visionary who, from Barcelona, wants to transform navigation and contribute to the progress of humanity. This document reflects the connection between science, industry and society, and shows how Catalonia actively participated in the debates and projects that defined European modernity. It is a testament to faith in reason, technology and collective cooperation as engines of change.
