Description

The sloop was a sailing vessel widely used in the Mediterranean during the 18th and 19th centuries, especially for the cabotage trade and fishing. The documentation on its construction reflects the dynamism of the Catalan naval sector and its connection with European trade routes. This type of ship, agile and easy to maneuver, was ideal for the Catalan coasts and for commercial relations with France, Italy and North Africa. The document shows the technical and artisanal knowledge of the masters, as well as the economic importance of shipbuilding in ports such as Barcelona, Mataró or Cambrils. In terms of heritage, it stands out for its technical typology, its guild or institutional origin and its economic and maritime themes. It is a valuable testimony of Catalan participation in the European maritime network and of its capacity for innovation and adaptation in a context of commercial growth.
