Description

The 1892 document on the Hispano Portuguese Customs League, drawn up by Marçal de Trinxeria from Cassà de la Selva, reflects the ambition to unite Spain and Portugal economically through a common customs area. Trinxeria, prominent defender of the Iberian cork industry, proposed an alliance that would favor cross-border economic development and peninsular commercial integration. This project, despite not materializing in his lifetime, anticipated the ideals of European economic integration. The document exemplifies Catalan participation in international cooperation initiatives and shows how, from the Girona territory, ideas with a European vocation were projected.
