Description

Tomás Luis de Victoria is surely the most famous Renaissance polyphonist of the entire Iberian Peninsula and one of the great international references. This first book of masses is the second work published by Tomás Luis de Victoria (Ávila, ca. 1548-Madrid, 1611), dating from the time when he was musicae moderator of the Germanic College of Rome, which had welcomed him as an intern in 1565. Most of Victoria’s polyphonic work has been published by Italian publishers in Venice, Rome and Milan. Of this rare edition, printed in Venice, only a dozen copies are known, often preserved incomplete.
