Description

The report presented in January 1921 to the Barcelona City Council, the result of a trip as a pensioner to the main zoological parks in Europe, reflects Catalonia’s desire to integrate itself into the continent’s scientific and cultural currents. This document shows how the comparative study and the exchange of knowledge with other European cities were fundamental for the development of modern projects such as the Barcelona Zoo. The report shows a collective and scientific view on zoology, conservation and environmental education, and places Catalonia within a network of cities that were committed to research and dissemination. It is part of the themes of international relations, science and culture, and reinforces Barcelona’s role as the European capital of progress and innovation.
