Description

This document from 1766 is a unique example of judicial documentation from the Ancien Regime, which reflects the social and gender tensions within the Catalan nobility. The criminal investigation into the foiled kidnapping of Raimunda de Puiggener-Orís and Boïl d’Arenós, allegedly orchestrated by Viscount du Blaisel and his French maid, shows the complexity of relationships between aristocratic families, foreign influence and the vulnerability of women, even within the elite. The case also reveals the functioning of criminal justice and the protection of family honor in an era marked by social stratification and patriarchal control. This document fits within the criteria of typological (judicial) diversity, institutional background and social and political themes, and contributes to understanding how Catalan legal culture was inscribed in the values and conflicts of 18th century Europe.
