Description

Conxita Simarro’s diary, written between 1938 and 1941, is an intimate and moving testimony of the suffering of children during the Civil War and after the war. Through the gaze of a girl, the fears, absences, hopes and adaptations to a reality marked by violence and uncertainty are reflected. This document is exceptional because it gives a voice to childhood, often silenced in historical accounts, and shows how war conflicts deeply affect the emotional and daily lives of the most vulnerable. It is also an example of how personal memory can become collective heritage, and how autobiographical literature connects with the European values of dignity, peace and protection of children’s rights.
