Description: It is the oldest preserved photograph of the iron bridge over the stream of La Bisbal del Vendrell that was built by the Sociedad de ferrocarriles de Tarragona a Martorell y Barcelona, concessionaire company of the railway line from Tarragona to Martorell. On June 22, 1864, the people of Venderell saw a train go by, for the first time, in a test phase.
The iron bridge was made up of three continuous sections: the central one, 18.62 m. of light, and those at the ends, 14.10 m., with lattice beams. During the civil war, specifically on January 20, 1939, the republican troops blew it up. Reconstruction works soon began, which ended in July 1939; the work consisted of replacing the metal work with a new reinforced cement bridge also made up of three sections: the central one, 16 m. of light, and the two ends, of 12 m.
It belongs to the personal collection of the poet, journalist and pharmacist from Vendrell Joan Ramon i Soler (1851-1900).
