Description: The Universal Exhibition of 1929, held in Barcelona, was an event of great relevance both for the city and for Europe. This fair served to consolidate Barcelona as a European capital of modernity and technological progress, at a time when Europe was recovering from the ravages of the First World War and was seeking to reassert itself as a driver of cultural, industrial and economic development. The exhibition attracted participants from different European countries, promoting the exchange of knowledge and innovations in sectors such as architecture, the arts, industry and transport. In addition, Barcelona took advantage of the events to transform the city, with major infrastructure works, such as the construction of the National Palace or the modernization of Montjuïc, all following the architectural and urban planning ideals of Europe. The project also strengthened Catalonia’s ties with the rest of Europe, especially in the economic, cultural and tourist areas, showing a city prepared to be a bridge between the south of Europe and the rest of the continent. Thus, the Exhibition was a key point in the international projection of Barcelona and its role within the European context of the 20th century.
