Description

The stereoscopic image made by Manuel Herrera i Ges in 1914, which shows a detail of the altarpiece of the main altar of the Seu Vella in Lleida with four figures of prophets (apostles), is a photographic document of great heritage, artistic and technical value. Preserved in the Lleida Seminary Museum and from the Lleida Diocesan Archives, this photograph is part of the historical cycle of the 19th and 20th centuries and is part of a graphic collection linked to the visual documentation of medieval Catalan heritage. Territorially, it provides a concrete vision of the city of Lleida, within the vegueria of Lleida, and contributes to the thematic diversity of the project in the fields of culture, art and historic habitats. The altarpiece, dated between 1360 and 1363 according to the work books, is a highly relevant Gothic piece that connects Catalan artistic production with the European currents of religious Gothic. The stereoscopic technique used in photography provides added value as an innovative visual resource for the time, showing the interest in the conservation and dissemination of heritage through technology. This image is a clear example of how Catalonia has contributed to the preservation and projection of its artistic heritage within the European context.
