Description

The photographs of the Can Torra and Can Riera sausage factories, the textile colony of the Conca del Ter, the tanneries of the Meder river and the El Sucre factory in Vic, form a visual portrait of the industrial dynamism of Osona at the beginning of the 20th century. This set of documents reflects the economic diversification of the region, with sectors such as meat, textiles and leather, which transformed the urban and social landscape. The imprint of modernism, visible in the industrial architecture, connects Vic with the artistic and technological currents that developed in Barcelona and in Europe. These images, the work of photographers such as Josep Palmarola and Antoni Robert, bear witness to a moment of growth and modernization, and show how the territory was integrated into European productive and cultural networks. The industrial heritage of Osona is key to understanding the construction of a modern Catalonia open to the world.
