Description

Negative on glass plate of a photograph taken by Lluís Domènech himself and which is part of the collection of glass plates in the Domènech fund. It is an image that reproduces a plaster model sculpted by Arturo Mélida Alinaro, who was a fellow student and friend of Lluís Domènech in Madrid: a lion’s head that Mélida made in 1878. He gave it to the architect and he embedded it in an interior wall of his house in Canet.
In the plate emulsion, the plate is identified with the number 1, dated January 1, 1883 and signed with the anagram of Lluís Domènech.
This plate could indicate the period in which Lluís Domènech began to take photographs, mainly as a working tool and for teaching purposes at the School of Architecture in Barcelona.
Example of a private background document and the use of photography as a working tool. Use of the technological innovations of the moment, by a prominent figure in European architecture.
