Description

The photograph of the interior of the cooperative winery of the Syndicat de Vinicultors de Sarral, dated 1920, is a visual testimony to the strength of the agricultural cooperative movement in Catalonia at the beginning of the 20th century. Located in the Conca de Barberà, a region with a long winemaking tradition, this cooperative exemplifies the collective organization of small producers to face the challenges of the market and improve living conditions in the rural world. The industrial space, with large warehouses and a functional architecture, reflects the modernization of the agricultural sector and the will to innovate. In the European context, Catalan cooperativism aligns itself with other similar movements that, throughout the continent, were looking for a fairer and more solidary economy. This graphic document is a sample of how the culture of collective work has contributed to the construction of a socially cohesive Europe rooted in the territory.
