Description

The Solsona Carnival of 1971 marks the recovery of this popular festival in the midst of the Franco dictatorship, being the first place in Spain where it is again celebrated in the streets. The document is witness to an act of cultural resistance and vindication of freedom of expression. Preserved in the Solsonès County Archive, it shows how popular culture can become a space for dissent and identity reconstruction. It is also an example of how the festive memory connects with the European values of freedom, diversity and democracy.
