Description

The sardana “Sardana de la vila de Cassà”, composed by Josep Coll in 1959, is a musical expression that reflects the cultural vitality of a municipality closely linked to the sardanist tradition. Cassà de la Selva has historically been a prominent center in the promotion of the sardana, with a rich activity of duets, composers and dancers. This musical piece, written in full Francoism, symbolizes cultural resistance through music and popular dance, and anticipates the recognition of Cassà as Ciutat Pubilla de la Sardana in 2000. It is a clear example of how the sardana, as a dance and symbol of identity, has contributed to keeping Catalan culture alive and projecting it into the European imagination of popular cultures.
