Description

This image of the Passeig Miramar, with the Casa Gatell restaurant, the Torre del Port and the boats moored at the Mollet del Rec, is part of the Foto Raymond Fund and is a visual witness to the transformation of the Catalan coast during the tourist boom of the 1950s and 1960s. The Foto Raymond company, which specializes in publishing postcards, sensitively captured the social and economic changes that tourism brought to the territory. This photograph reflects the beginning of a new stage for many coastal towns, which moved from the traditional fishing activity to an economy oriented towards leisure and the European visitor. The document illustrates how Catalonia was integrated into the dynamics of modernization and openness in southern Europe, and how the landscape and daily life adapted to this new reality. It is a window into the visual memory of a key moment in the construction of contemporary Catalonia.
