Description

View of Avinguda del Canal with agricultural machinery on both sides of the 3rd Sèquia (community managed watercourse) of the Canal of Urgell during the Sant Josep de Mollerussa fair.
Along with the canal’s machinery and ditch, you can see the chimney of “La Forestal d’Urgel”, a paper company that operated from 1890 to 1980, closely linked to the Canal d’Urgell and of which nothing has been preserved.
The Sant Josep fair dates from 1885, although a fair had been held since 1872. Sant Josep is not a saint who has much devotion in Mollerussa, it is not known why this date was chosen, we assume that it was stipulated on this day as it did not coincide with any fair held in the area.
The Mollerussa fair was the first fair in the province where tractors were exhibited and has been growing year after year becoming one of the most important agricultural machinery fairs in the province of Lleida along with the Sant Miquel de Lleida fair.
