Description

This image captured by photojournalists Brangulí shows the burning chapel of Buenaventura Durruti, installed at the headquarters of the CNT and the FAI on Via Laietana in Barcelona at the end of November 1936. Durruti, an emblematic figure of the anarchist movement, died on the front in Madrid during the Spanish Civil War, and his funeral became an act of great symbolic and political charge. The photograph documents a moment of strong social and ideological mobilization, when Barcelona was one of the epicenters of the workers’ revolution and anti-fascist resistance.
