Description

In 1991, in full preparation for the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games, the figure of Mayor Pasqual Maragall and the mascot “Cobi” symbolized the city’s urban, cultural and international renewal. This document, preserved in the National Archives of Catalonia, reflects a key moment in which Barcelona projected itself to the world as an open, modern and creative capital. “Cobi”, designed by Mariscal, breaks with Olympic stereotypes and becomes an icon of a new way of communicating. Maragall, at the head of the project, represents the institutional leadership that made an unprecedented urban and social transformation possible. This documentary testimony shows how Catalonia, through Barcelona, actively contributed to the construction of a new open, cultural and democratic Europe.
