Description

The photograph of the Rosal Colony, dated 1908 and preserved in the Municipal Archives of Olvan, is a photographic document of great heritage value that accurately reflects the industrial and social reality of Catalonia at the beginning of the 20th century. This image is part of the historical cycle of the 19th-20th centuries and represents a graphic documentary typology that enriches the diversity of the digital resource. Coming from a local fund linked to the textile industry, the photograph shows a paradigmatic example of an industrial colony in Berguedà, within the Vegueria of Barcelona, thus contributing to the territorial diversity of the project. In addition, it allows addressing various issues such as economic engines, through textile industrialization as an engine of regional development; the organization of collective services, showing daily life in the colony with services such as school, church and housing; and the heartbeats of Catalan society, with the configuration of a cohesive working community that reflects values of solidarity and collective identity. This visual document not only bears witness to a key moment in Catalan economic and social history, but also contributes to understanding the role of Catalonia in the construction of industrial and modern Europe.
