Description

The Trans-Pyrenean Railway projects adopted in the 1904 agreement, signed by representatives of the President of the French Republic and the King of Spain, defined the Barcelona – Aix les Thermes route as one of the routes that would unite Catalonia and France. Thus, the Ripollès region would be one of the connecting routes between Catalonia and Europe. In 1919, the first section of the so-called “Transpirinenc Railway” was inaugurated, which over the years was maintained and still today reaches Tor de Querol (line R3).
The inauguration of this stretch was a massive event and was decked out with great party and ceremony. In the photograph, a machine decorated with flags crosses Ripoll as people watch expectantly.
