Description: On August 13, 1963, the floodgates of the Sau dam were closed and the flooding of the valley began. The river Ter, between Roda and Sant Romà, stopped being a playful and engorged river to become the Sau swamp.
Quirze Parés i Ganyet (1909-1994) is the author of the report we are presenting and his collection, of special photographic and audiovisual interest, has been preserved in the Osona Regional Archives since 2012. Parés was a curious hiker who took a great interest in the history and geography of the Sau valley, Collsacabra and the Centelles surroundings. His cinematic and photographic interests led him to combine his hobbies, thanks to which we have been left with some very interesting reports and films that document these territories visually, especially in the 60s and 70s.
In the case of Sau, Quirze Parés had already filmed and photographed the Ter and some of its surroundings some time before the opening of the swamp and flooding of the valley. And, in the time when the river level began to rise, he dedicated himself to documenting how the water was rising until it left submerged so many of the things he had photographed until then and of which you can see a small taste in this photographic Spring
This report has been prepared by the Regional Archives as a summary of the photographic reports that the author made of the river Ter (Sau I and Sau II).
