Description

The Book of Privileges of Granollers is the most valuable historical document of the Municipal Archive and, therefore, of the documentary heritage of Granollers. The book is a compilation that includes notarized copies of royal privileges and franchises granted to the town since the 13th century, as well as documents of the municipal regime and administrative organization of the Council, economic activity, taxation and administration of justice, in addition to sales, agreements and judgments, all important documents that needed to be at hand for the proper functioning of the town. It also includes a copy of some of the most solemn or important documents emanating from the Royal Chancellery, such as those relating to rights over the market, over water and the town’s mill. The compilation, made from the documents kept at the town’s notary, was carried out in the middle of the 15th century, in a chronological arc that spans almost forty years.
