Description

The Rule of Saint Benedict was the great monastic rule that permeated and shaped monastic life, male and female, in European territories since the High Middle Ages. It states that the abbot must be chosen by the monks of the community in assembly. This act of election of the nuns of Sant Pere de les Puel·les at the beginning of the 15th century shows the development of this assembly and the democratic election by the community of its representative and mother.
