Description

The notarial contract for the construction of the first organ in the parish of Arbeca, dated 1425, is an exceptional document that allows us to know in detail the desire to endow this temple with a musical instrument of great liturgical and cultural relevance. Signed in front of the rector of Les Borges Blanques, this document not only establishes the construction commission, but also specifies the technical and artistic characteristics that the organ should have. This type of documentation, preserved in the notarial manuals of the parishes of the diocese, is a valuable source for understanding the religious, musical and social life of Catalonia in the 15th century. In addition, it highlights the importance of music in the liturgy and the will of local communities to promote sound heritage. This contract is part of a documentary set that enriches the knowledge of European musical heritage and shows the connection of Catalonia with the cultural and artistic practices of the continent in medieval times.
