Description

This document from 1395 records the consecration of the church and altar of Sant Pere de Salàs de Pallars by Joan de Baufés, bishop of Osca, by delegation of the bishop of Urgell, Galceran de Vilanova. Preserved in a library, it is an exceptional example of the sacralization of the document, considered a sacred object beyond its administrative function. This practice reflects the deep spirituality of medieval society, which attributed a symbolic and protective power to the written text. The document highlights the importance of the Church as a backbone institution of the territory and collective memory. It is also a testament to the rich Catalan religious documentary heritage and its connection with the devotional and cultural practices that have contributed to European identity.
