Description

Lluís Pons d’Icard, following the trends of the time (both Flavio Biondo, in Rome, and Jeroni Pau, in Catalonia) wrote a history of the city of Tarragona. His great contribution, still today a historiographical landmark that must be referenced, was that he tried to reconstruct the topography in the Roman period from the archaeological remains. Apart from highlighting the Roman past, common to all Mediterranean countries, and being a particularly interesting manuscript for the study of the Catalan language (later Pons d’Icard wrote the same work in Spanish for publication), this version documents Pons d’Icard’s collaboration with the Flemish painter Antoon van den Wijngaerde.
