Description

This plan, drawn by the priory lawyer Baltasar Simó in 1836, is a key witness to the administrative transformation that Catalonia experienced with the establishment of the Spanish liberal state. It represents the creation of Falset’s judicial party, at a time when the territory was being reorganized to adapt it to a new, more centralized and rationalized government structure. This cartographic document reflects the will to modernize and control the territory, and shows how the Priory was integrated into a new institutional framework. It illustrates how Catalonia participated in the state and institutional building processes that were also taking place throughout Europe.
