Description

The collection of maps of the Master Plan for the irrigation area of the Ter, Muga and Fluvià river basins were drawn up by the Ter Estuary Institute probably between 1950 and 1955. These are 432 cartographic units, at a scale of 1:2000, drawn after the Sau-Susqueda dam system came into operation. These documents were part of a hydraulic planning strategy that had the will, with the implementation of those swamps, to compensate the irrigators for the alteration of the flow of the Ter river basin. The maps of these three Girona water basins, beyond the interest they have for the information they contain, the detailed level of the elements represented — contours, landmarks, toponyms, owners, old buildings, etc. — and the technique used in their preparation — fabric support — are an essential tool for the study of the impact that public hydraulic infrastructure works had on our territory during the period of the Plans of Development of the middle of the 20th century.
