Description

In 1911, the Santa Perpètua de Mogoda City Council commissioned the school teacher Josep Jardí Domingo to draw up the first map of the municipality. This document, made in cyanotype, is much more than a technical representation: it is a sample of the involvement of the educational world in the construction of territorial and urban planning knowledge. The plan reflects the urban structure, roads, plots and public spaces of a town in transformation, and tells us of a time when local planning was beginning to take shape with modern criteria. In addition, it is an example of the diversity of documentary supports that enrich the Catalan archives. This document connects us with a Europe that, at the turn of the 20th century, was committed to the rationalization of space and the participation of the community in the definition of its environment.
